Ubisoft E3 Conference – What I liked

And what about Ubisoft’s E3 conference and how they did, and what I found interesting. It’s kind of interesting how everyone said that Ubisoft was the worst conference so far. I will just say that I don’t agree, they showed a lot of interesting titles and they’ve learned from the past. It was fun, games that deserved time got it, times that needed less time had less time and so on. The only real complaint being that the Rayman demo took a bit to long, but it was fun to watch and so it’s fine.

There was a lot of interesting things here so let’s just take a quick look on each game here shall we? If needed, I will just make a separate post later if it’s interesting enough. So here we go:

1. RAYMAN ORIGINS
Not a huge title and not something I’m going to discuss further then: it looked fun and sometimes you need a fun side scroller.

2. FARCRY 3
I’m not a huge fan of the earlier Farcry games, but the feeling from the whole idea of “insanity” made me interested in it. The look of it is okay, not nearly as good as other first person games that have been shown so far. I bet all of you out there that enjoyed the other Farcry games will be looking forward to this.

3. GHOST RECON: FUTURE SOLDIER
Thank you Ubisoft! Finally! God I’m so thrilled about this game now. I’ve always been a huge sucker for co-op, not multiplayer craziness but co-op, where you and your friends fight through missions with all the skills and laughs you can muster. They just showed us a good looking FPS game with a 4-player enabled co-op. If I find 2-3 other guys to play this with, I will be playing this shortly after release!

4. GHOST RECON ONLINE
Guess what, they’re releasing a online FPS game. Guess what? It will be free. Guess what? I’m guessing it will be fun!

5. ASSASSINS CREED REVELATION
I’m going to let the trailer talk for itself here. I will probably make a post about this game later on anyway. ^^ (Also: LOVE THE SONG!)

Minecraft coming to Xbox 360

I already mentioned this in the post about Microsoft’s EA conference. So here are two videos for your viewing pleasure. 🙂

Battlefield 3 at E3 (EA conference)

So EA just finished their live show, to be honest I’m not a huge fan, I don’t like sports game, and because of that I feel a bit “meh” most of the time, going through so many different sports games.

Anyway.

A thing I want to mention before going into Battlefield 3 and how that will kick the ass out of MW3 (my opinion) let’s talk about some shit talk from EA. They start by saying that they will keep it simple, their show will be all about the games and game developers, unlike certain other companies that bring celebrities on to the stage. Being a hint towards Microsoft for bringing out ICE-T during the showing of Gears of War 3. And after a while… there they go bringing in American football all-stars on to the stage. When that happened… well let’s just say my jaw dropped.

BATTLEFIELD 3
This is the shit right here! The demo EA just showed for the game was stunning, looked great, and made you feel like this is an actual FPS trying to stimulate a somewhat more realistic warzone. It made me drool and long for this game so bad.

If Modern warfare 3 is the arcade game of war.
Battlefield 3 is the war simulator.

IMPORTANT DATES AND INFO ON BF3
They also announced a few other important things. To begin with: RELEASE DATE OCTOBER 25. This if I remember correctly a date not earlier revealed.
OPEN BETA in September. Online stats and community will be free! They mentioned to send a message to MW3, we do the same thing for our players, but free. Let’s see how they will react to this fact, will the new MW3 Elite online thingy also become free within time to fight against BF3?

E3 – Microsoft Conference – The things I liked

Hello everyone and welcome back to the old me that actually watch E3 news and blog about it! Just watched the whole Microsoft Conference live, and that means XBOX 360 and Kinect. Following is the list of things that gets the thumb up from me.

1. Tomb Raider
I just love the look of this. Me and my brother was watching it and we bought nodded to his comment: This feels like Resident Evil 4 did when it came out at first. He hit the nail on the head, it really does feel like a new beginning for Tomb Raider, and in a great way! The in game presentation we just saw started with Lara being captured and trapped in a cave. Plenty of action, new look and feel and a style that will redefine how see Tomb Raider. I love you new Lara, if the game is as good as your new style, this will be a huge hit.

2. Minecraft On xbox 360!
It’s true! Notch you little bugger! Getting deals with huge companies like Microsoft without telling us before hand. You sneaky man. I love Minecraft, don’t play it much but I love it, and the fact that this will make the game even bigger. I don’t mind it, don’t mind it at all. As it is now, Minecraft on console will be exclusive for Xbox 360. Oh and also, you will be able to control the game with kinect… don’t know why that would matter…

3. Modern Warfare 3
I love the game series so I have to mention it, but really, honestly? It was one of the less exciting Call Of Duty game presentations. Still want the game though.

Let us continue with the less interesting moments and parts…

1. RYSE
Have you heard of it before? You know what it is? Didn’t think so. Go go games about Rome!

2. Kinect
So much Kinect!? It feelt like any movie trailer right now ending with the words NOW IN 3D! Either they’re having problem selling the damn thing or they are just very happy about having it. Don’t know what it is. But most games showed was about the whole Kinect business. Don’t care for it.

3. Halo 4
This is the start of a trilogy apparently that will keep the Halo series going. I’m sorry, great looking trailer. But… I’m just not interested

20 Reasons not to buy a 3DS

Just read on FZ.se, the 20 reasons to why the Japanese wont buy a 3DS. Let’s go through the list shall we, follwed by some thoughts.

1. Price is high/waiting for a price drop
Well this is a big hurdidur for any new handheld. The prices are crazy, you may as well invest in new computer parts or a console.

2. Satisfied by DS/DSi
Meh, I like a lot of upcoming 3Ds titles, and I want them! Sadly the point number ones still makes this a no sale for me…

3. Worried about eye strain
If I was worried about eye strain, I wouldn’t play as much as I do. 😀

4. Worried about getting sick from the screen
You may as well look at the answer for point three.

5. Few launch titles
Agreed, but there seems to a lot of cool titles coming up like Resident Evil titles, Blazblue, Zelda titles and so on.

6. Will buy once a game I want is released
And once they release 3DS 2.0.

7. Satisfied by cell phone and smartphone game
8. Satisfied by PSP

Don’t have any of the above but hell I would love to have it all really…

9. The battery is weak
3DS 2.0

10. It’s heavy and I don’t feel like carrying it with me
3DS 2.0

11. Can’t play Game Boy Advance games
12. The colour I want isn’t available
13. Can’t play Game Boy games

You serious? If you have game boy/advance games, I bet you have something to play them on already.

14. I’ll save my money for NGP, thank you very much
15. Waiting for a version with a larger screen
16. Because you can’t move your DSi Points over
17. The buttons layout looks hard to use
18. No Famicom/NES in the Virtual Console
19. The zoom view for DS games is hard on the eyes
20. Waiting until my friend buys it

Im just gonna end up saying 3DS 2.0 on these to sum it up. That’s really what I’m waiting for, a 3DS that fixes the current issues they are having, cause I KNOW FOR SURE that they will do what they always do. Release 2 or 3 versions before they are happy with the thing. It’s too bad that they just can’t release a handheld that they feel is finished to begin with, or at least give it some proper fan testing or something so they know about them before hand… oh well.

3DS 2.0 where are you!? And… how long before your price drop below that of a PS3? Or PSP? …

Yea…

10 Minutes Of Starcraft 2 – Heart Of The Swarm

Well it’s not really 10 minutes, but it’s a 10 minute long video with comments and in game photage. It’s looking awesome I tell ya.

APB Reloaded – Free Beta Up

Remember that MMO game that shortly after release was shutdown, don’t remember the exact reason for it or how long the game actually was up. But I do remember looking at the news about it thinking: to bad on something that looked so cool.

Well I’m sitting here now regretting that, cause… because of that its now free. Yes you heard me, a game that took years to develop by a proper company has now been reworked and released for free. Well, not properly released yet, it’s still in the BETA, but a BETA of a game that used to cost around 50$? I’m okay with that.

The game is an action based MMO, if you want to go to the deepest basics of it. It’s basically Cop Vs Thief, in one awesome looking world. Does anyone remember the multiplayer from GTA IV? It was okay but compared to the whole single player game it sadly fell short. Well APB takes it one step further.

To download the game go to: http://www.gamersfirst.com/apb/
And for “info” go to: http://www.gamersfirst.com/

Right now the game looks and feels awesome, getting some friends on there will most probably make it even more fun. I’m not saying it’s perfect, I’m not saying that you can vote on this for the best game of the year. But, it’s a FREE MMO, with great potential.

Review, comin up!

BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger Review (xbox 360)

If you don’t understand it by now, I love this game. BlazBlue is what I always wanted in a fighting game. It got a great and vast story, good character design (visually and unique when it comes to abilities and basic attack), 2D and well pretty much everything.
I was one to miss out on what guilty gear was, mostly cause I was never really in to Beat Em’ Up games back in the day and once I tried it, BlazBlue was also there and caught my eye and attention a lot more. My love for BlazBlue started when me and a couple of friends had an all out gaming night, of course a lot of Vs. was being played and this was one of them. I’ve never been great at these kinds of games but seeing the colorful design work and the fact that it’s 2D really dragged me in. At the time the game hadn’t been released in Europe yet and as soon as I found it was coming, I pre-ordered.

Okay enough of my short but very (not so) interesting story, and let’s get to the game itself.

THE STORY
What really drags me in to the BlazBlue universe is how they created a great story and a story mode to play it out. Every character got a storyline that adds up to a great big picture that will be revealed piece by piece. You can even decide to go different paths throughout the story and it will change the outcome of it, and every character got one “real” ending that you’re supposed to find. Finding every possible path and dialog in the story will also reward you in the end.

It doesn’t end there though, every character have about 110 different dialog pieces each, that is used within battles, this is huge, and it changes depending on who they fight, so it’s always interesting to see what they will say, and it’s most often connected to the story and the characters relation within it.

For people that enjoy the more classis type of game play (arcade) where you battle your way through different opponents, that’s always available, and even here you will be given short story related talks between characters. They are not as detailed and deep, but it will give you a basic understanding of the story (if you play it through with all characters).

Why I decided to talk so much about the story and depth around it, is because it is something that is lacking in so many other games like it. When I play this game I don’t understand why other game creators don’t work as much on the story and character design around it, it’s something that should be done more often, cause it’s not only more of the game, but it’s also very rewarding for players that sit down with a beat em up just to play it for fun. I can honestly say I’ve never spent as much time in front of a fighting game that I have with BlazBlue.

THE FIGHTING
When it comes to the fighting, I’m honestly going to admit that I’m not the best fitting person to review it. I’m not very skilled (working on it though), and I can only tell you how it is from a more casual view, which isn’t bad in itself I guess.

The characters all have different play styles, and as a new player you will quickly realize which of them needs a bit more combo work and which of them which simply needs button mashing (Noel being a great example). Even the characters that are considered beginner heroes have a lot of combos and abilities that can be worked with for more experienced players.

It’s a real joy to learn about each character in the game and trying to master them is not only rewarding but fun! For more on the battle system, I’m going to give IGN some credit for a quick and easy review on it:

ONLINE
The network mode that’s put into this game is great. The ranked matchmaking sadly won’t match you against players your own level (not what I’ve noticed anyway), but you can easily host game rooms where up to six people can join in the fun. The room can have several different settings such as number or rounds, round time, rotation set up etc. The way it works is that two players fight each other while the whole room can still chat with each other discussing the action. After the current battle new players will be picked to battle depending on the room set up.
You as a player can also level up, by winning games and completing different requirements like not being damaged and such.

GOOD
+ Great Story
+ Character Design
+ Much to find and unlock
+ 2D

BAD
– Few playable characters
– 2D

Under The Radar: Foto Showdown

Konami is currently working on a very interesting title called Photo Showdown. At a first look your head will be skipping a step and just think: Another Pokemon game. The point of the game is to collect monsters, fight with them in tournaments, and trade and fight with them against your friends. Overall a pretty standard layout for the gameplay, as it seems at this very moment it will loose alot of interest becuase of a lacking RPG feel. Ofcourse this is only what I can say from the first few trailers that out on the internet at the moment, so this may be different or change.

What makes the game standout then? As you may have noticed, the word Photo starts the name of the game, and with good reason. To capture monsters you run around in tall grass for random encounters, instead you use the DSi camera to take photos, dependingon the photo it will generate a monster for you. How many monsters and how exactly the photos colors and such will matter, we dont know.

Well here is a few videos to show you what the game is about, and it will be interesting to see how this game turns out. ^^
